About Plano, Texas

Plano, Texas holds rank 70 for being the most populous city in the United States, and it's twenty miles northeast of downtown Dallas. It's home to plenty of corporate headquarters, such as: Alliance Data, Cinemark Theatres, Dell Services, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Ericsson, Frito-Lay, HP Enterprise Services, Huawei, J. C. Penney, Pizza Hut, Rent-A-Center, Traxxas, Siemens PLM Software, and Toyota Motors USA.

In the 1840s, settlers arrived in the area quite near to the present-day Plano. There were a few facilities available, such as a sawmill and a gristmill. When a store opened, it brought more people into the area. When mail service was established, there were several names suggested for their town, but after several rejections, the locals accepted the name Plano (from the Spanish word for 'flat.') It was a reference to the local terrain.
