5 Steps to Help Choose the Right Size Bus for Your Growing Daycare

If enrollment at your childcare center is climbing, it may be time to rethink your transportation. Selecting the correct bus size isn’t just about seats — it’s about balancing safety, efficiency, and budget.

1. Count Children and Staff
Start by calculating the number of children you’ll transport at one time, plus teachers or aides who must ride along.

2. Consider Future Growth
Buying a bus that’s too small can mean another purchase in a year. A slightly larger MFSAB bus may serve you longer.

3. Think Storage & Maneuverability
Smaller daycare buses are easier to park and handle; larger models may offer under-seat storage or luggage racks for field trips.

4. Licensing & Insurance
Check state rules — in many areas, buses with 15 passengers or fewer don’t require a CDL, which saves on training and insurance.

5. Comfort & Climate
Look for buses with strong air conditioning and plenty of space between seats, especially in warmer climates.  If you will mainly be transporting older children, Freedman Family Seats might be more comfortable.

The right-sized vehicle keeps your staff stress-free and your students comfortable.
